📢 New GIS Job Opening at the Garland County Department of Emergency Management


The Garland County Department of Emergency Managements has an immediate opening for the position of GIS Technician/Flood Plain Manager. Knowledge of specialized field (however acquired), such as Computer Science, Computer Programming, etc. The equivalent of four years in high school, plus night, trade extension, or correspondence school specialized training, equal to two years of college, plus four years related experience and/or training.


The individual must also be experienced with skilled technical work performing 911 database design and maintenance, GIS and general mapping duties, and GPS data collection work in the field and must possess or be willing to obtain Certified Floodplain Manager certification in accordance with the Association of State Floodplain Managers.


The incumbent should possess strong mathematical skills, communication skills, and analytical skills. Technical skills include computer (ArcGIS, CAMA System, Image Editing Software, and Microsoft Excel), plotter printer, scanner, protractor, engineer scale, and land measure compass. The individual should have a working knowledge of general office machines/equipment such as personal computer, printer, copy machine, typewriter, and FAX. Must possess excellent interpersonal skills when dealing with the public and other employees. This position is typically working alone on the computer two-thirds of the time and the other third coordinating and assisting the public and other government agencies in person, e-mail, or over the telephone.
