The GIS Administrator maintains the cooperative’s geographic information system. Ensuring the electrical system model, outside fiber optic plant, database, connectivity, and geospatial maps are accurate and current and optimizing field and departmental GIS applications to meet the Cooperative’s needs. Responsibilities
Delivers and updates mapping solution for the Cooperative’s GIS needs to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient utility operations both daily and during emergencies. Designs and implements GIS software and hardware improvements. Source base data, test updates, provide asset information to end-users (field/departments/contractors) in various formats (paper, web, mobile), custom and regular GIS analysis and presentation of reports.
Ensures that proposed and in construction infrastructure and associated data are stored properly into the GIS central repository.
Works with AECC departments by communicating needs and expectations for maintaining GIS software and hardware and for accessing data from company systems.
Assists with installation, configuration, and maintenance of systems within assigned area of responsibility.
Produces maps, diagrams, and reports as requested for fiber construction projects or Cooperative departments and divisions.
Partners with suppliers and vendors to troubleshoot and correct problems in systems. Assists with continuous performance monitoring of systems and determines when upgrades of equipment and/or services will be required. Troubleshoots problems and resolves issues, as required. Assists in the purchase of materials and supplies necessary for the operation of the systems
Participates in the development of documentation describing the technical aspects of systems, as well as operational notes, change control logs, and procedural flow charts. Reviews existing documentation for correctness and completeness.
Gather technical requirements for the creation of databases, applications, and spreadsheets.
Maintains up-to-date knowledge of technology and GIS functionality. Acquires and maintains appropriate education in the field of GIS. Stays abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of GIS, database management, and related hardware/software.
Handles stress effectively and works well with others.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s in Geography, GIS, Information Technology, Information Systems or related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
